Story walkthroughNo matter what, you'll have to start off playing Story Mode. It can be slow and drag along at times, but you are guaranteed to pick up legendary items after certain boss fights, which is a plus for your overall goal (be sure to save some to pass along to other characters). I highly suggest that if you are looking to complete this game as soon as possible, then skip all side missions and don't take longer than you have to when completing a certain quest. Difficulty should not determine whether or not you need to 'level up' to fight a boss because enemies are equal to the level of your character, or that of the highest level character in your party.
If for whatever reason you are having trouble with boss fights, I suggest going to the menu option while in-game and select the immediate lower difficulty that is available (you cannot change difficulties more than by 1 in Normal Mode). Thankfully, RoS is a very linear game. You would have to go to extreme lengths to get lost and/or not know what to do at any given time. Short of turning the TV off, you will know what your goal is at any given time. Without including any spoilers, this the storyline you will follow and the trophies you will earn along the way:ACT I: The beginning of the End! This whole Act is basically setting up the future Acts. Your character works with Leah, the female protagonist of Diablo 3, who is scrambling to save her uncle, Deckard Cain, figure out why literally, all hell is breaking lose and get a band together to stop the madness!
There are 10 quests in Act I. In my experience, Act I takes the longest to complete. It can be done within an hour, but it will take some serious effort and some skill.During the 'Reign of the Black King' quest, you will encounter the Skeleton King. He is not difficult to bring down, though you will want to make sure to kill off his minions when he summons them so you do not get overwhelmed.
He also has a sweep attack that can do a bit of damage if he gets you with the full combo so be sure to move out of the way when he starts to use it. Don't forget to utilize potions and health globes! Once you have defeated him, you will unlock. During the 'Imprisoned Angel' quest, you will encounter the Butcher.
You're first real challenge is the Butcher. It will take quite a bit of ducking and dodging attacks, however, nearly all of his attacks are easily avoidable.
The only attack you really need to watch out for is when he causes sections of the room to light on fire. The closer the Butcher is to dying, the more sections will light up and the frequency of the same will increase. Thankfully, you not only have your potions, but also 2 healing wells. If you find yourself having trouble staying alive, be sure to use a potion-healing well-potion-healing well tactic. This way, you will always have at least 1 emergency healing method if you find yourself having trouble staying alive.
Once have defeated it, you will unlock. ACT II: The plot thickens! This Act is basically where things are about to go down.
Moving up to the big leagues so to speak. The gang has some unfinished business to deal with a foe who appeared in Act I, save someone in Leah's family, revive a deadly being to help defeat a greater enemy and battle a demon who is looking to rule the world! There are 10 quests in Act II. In my experience, Act II is the second fastest Act to complete albeit a couple quests.During the 'City of Blood' quest, you will encounter Maghda.
She can be difficult to take down, especially once she starts unleashing her locus swarm often as well as summoning minions on a consistent basis. Your best bet is to focus on Maghda as much as possible. At this stage in the game, you should have enough skills unlocked to be able to take her down quick enough so that you are not getting swarmed by enemies and dying often. However, you will always want to make sure you have an 'out' since there are no healing wells during this fight.
So if you find yourself surrounded or in a corner that is hard to get out of, then you should run around, kill off some enemies, regroup and focus back on taking down Maghda. Once you have defeated her, you will unlock. During 'The Black Soulstone' quest, you will encounter Zoltun Kulle. Depending on your skill set and how advanced your character is at this point, you may want to lure Zoltun away from his 2 minions and take him out that way.
However, if you are ballin' out at this point, then by all means, wreck havoc. You're biggest threat are tornadoes, they'll take you out pretty fast and move about at random so you're best bet is to simply avoid them at all costs. He also has his own slow time ability, which causes you to move slower if caught within it's radius. Finally, Zoltun will summon a meteor to crash down on you. It comes down quickly so avoiding it can prove difficult, especially if you are caught in his slow time. With all this in mind, I found it easier to do a hit-and-run tactic for characters who were not equipped/skilled enough to take Zoltun done fast. Just be sure to avoid those tornadoes!
Once you have defeated him, you unlock. During the 'Lord of Lies' quest, you will encounter Belial. They don't call him deceitful for nothing! You're biggest challenge is Belial's final form, and it's not because any one of his attacks deal massive damage, it's because they are so easy to dodge and combined with the plethora of health globes that pop up constantly, you will start taking the battle for granted and that's where Belial gets you and you find yourself in the middle of one of his attacks and die. So even though this is a relatively easy fight at this stage in the game, do not take it for a walk in the park! Your best bet is to simply head in the opposite direction during any of his attacks since he typically likes to unleash a combo in the same spot.
His toxic breath attack can be unavoidable at times, but not harmful. The time when you'll most likely be running rather then fighting is when he sticks his arms in the ground and causes green geysers to sprout out all over the map. At that point, just be sure not to be standing on a green circle when it appears on the map. Once you have defeated him, you will unlock. ACT III: Buying a one way ticket to hell.
At this point, you got no other option but to take the fighting to the depths of hell! Straight up kicking butt and saving lives is what this Act is all about. You're entire mission throughout this act is to simply stop the advances of hell on the world and basically destroy it's demon leader, who is surprisingly not Diablo. There are 7 quests in Act III.
In my experience, Act III is the second longest Act to complete. Don't let the lower amount of quests fool you, most are long and require some luck since there are plenty of areas you will have to navigate through. Even though some map layouts in this Act do not change, they are still very long.During 'The Breached Keep' quest, you will encounter Ghom.
Another easy battle, you're biggest concern is his puking attack, combined with his fart gas cloud, it will deal some massive damage. So be sure to avoid that. If you find yourself losing life too quick, then just run around until you are at full health and can use a potion and use a hit-and-run tactic until he is dead.
Once you have defeated him, you will unlock. During the 'Siegebreaker' quest, you will encounter the Siegebreaker Assault Beast. Probably the most difficult battle in all of Act III is this one. It will either go one or two ways at this stage with your character build, long or short.
You'll either be able to take this guy down before the minions show up or you'll need to run around, kill said minions, and then focus on the Beast. His main attacks are a charge-like attack and a grapple attack.
Though his attacks can be difficult to avoid without boost to movement speed, none of them are devastating on there own. Though you may need to run around to heal if you find yourself surrounded. Just know that if the Beast has more than 1/2 his life when the minions come out, then your best bet is to take out the minions first. Once you have defeated him, you will unlock. During the 'Heart of Sin' quest, you will encounter Azmodan.
I don't know what Blizzard was thinking here but as far as RoS goes, Azmodan is all talk and no fight. You should have little difficulty taking this guy down even before the boiling blood gets near you. He may get you with a meteor strike, but he'll be dead long before you need a potion. And if you need to use a potion, that's no problem. However, if you find yourself having difficulty taking down Azmodan, than you need to rethink your character build. This fight is a complete joke.
You really have to go out of your way to make this fight difficult for yourself. If for whatever reason you are struggling with this fight, just avoid the meteors by running near the middle, behind the totem where the meteor cannot follow and at all costs, avoid the boiling blood that oozes closer to you. Once you have defeated him, you will unlock. ACT IV: The Showdown! Probably the only time you would not want to personally visit heaven is during the events of Act IV. They do call this Diablo 3 for a reason, and wouldn't you know it, that sneaky demon found his way to heaven even after all we did in the previous acts! And guess who has to help the angels defeat him?
You guessed it, us. Thankfully, there are only 4 quests in Act IV. Needless to say, this is by far the quickest Act in the game.During the 'Prime Evil' quest, you will encounter Diablo. Diablo can be a bit tricky to defeat. You have 2 healing wells on opposite sides of the map, and though they are helpful, they are also placed in a way to be inconvenient. If you are playing solo, you will not be able to use your follower (unless in Adventure Mode). Thankfully, nearly all of Diablo's attacks can be easily avoided, which I highly suggest learning to do because his attacks are typically very strong and if he completes 2 full attacks on you, you will be a tickle away from death.
About halfway through the fight, you are sent to hell (just can't get away from that place) to fight a shadow version of Diablo and of yourself. No healing wells so be mindful of potions and health globe usage. Your shadow version can prove to be more difficult than Diablo, so be careful when fighting it and be mindful of its attacks, especially if they are 'area of effect' attacks, which typically cause massive damage. Once you have defeated Diablo's shadow, you get sent back to Heaven (yay) to finish off Diablo. At this point, Diablo has learned a couple new tricks and uses his attacks more often.
The burning ground attack is one you will most likely want to stay away from and try to lure him away to you, everything else is pretty avoidable and simply requires you to move in the opposite direction to avoid damage. Again, use the healing wells when needed and take your time. At this point, it would be a shame to die and have to do the whole thing again. Once you have defeated him, you will unlock. ACT V: But wait, there's more! In Diablo 2, the Lord of Terror famously stated in his sanctuary that 'not even death can save you from me.' Well at first I thought he meant that even in death, he would destroy me.
But now that the events of RoS have taken place, I think I am starting to see what he meant. Or maybe it is just some sort of odd irony that the Angel of Death is out to kill humans and not demons. So yeah, now with the main events of Diablo 3 taken care of, it seems an angel went AWOL and its up to us to take him out. There are 8 quests in Act V. In my experience, Act V is in the middle of the pack in terms of fastest to complete. Most of key maps never change, but like Act III, can prove to a while to complete.During the 'Souls of the Dead' quest, you will encounter Myriam.
She appears after destroying the first soul crucible. After you speak with her, you will unlock. During 'The Harbringer' quest, you will encounter Urzael. This guy can prove to be a pain if not dealt with correctly.
You get 2 healing wells which come in handy because unless you are decked out in fire resistant gear, you're going to want to play the hit-and-run game with this boss. Avoid his attacks at all costs because they are fire based on cause burn damage over time. It is not difficult to avoid his attacks at first, but closer to death he gets, the more frequent the attacks and the place gets a little crowded and you will find yourself dancing around him more often then attacking him. Just be sure to get in a couple good combos, heal, rinse and repeat. Once you defeat him, you will unlock. During 'The Witch' quest, you will encounter Adria.
Similar to Urzael's fight, you are going to want to avoid all of Adria's attacks because nearly all of them cause life drain, which you can't really prepare for equipment-wise. She may take a while to bring down, but her physical attacks are not all that powerful and there are times she likes to take a timeout for herself and admire the pool of blood and that is where you can unload on her and take her out, but this may require a couple times to do so be sure to have your running shoes on for this fight. Once you defeated her, you will unlock.

During the 'Angel of Death' quest, you will encounter Malthael. Definitely the most difficult fight in the game. Blizzard made sure this fight was going to be a solid 1v1 fight because Malthael will make quick work of any of your summoned creatures/allies/followers with his attacks. There are 2 healing wells on the opposite side of the map, and its a pretty small map and you will be running around in circles quiet a bit. Avoiding his death clouds is your top priority, followed closely by his whirlwind attack, followed even closer by his meteor/fire blast attack. So yeah, avoid it all! The first 2 are pretty simple, avoid stepping into the clouds and run like crazy when he uses his whirlwind attack.
About halfway through the fight, Malthael will 'buff' up. This is when he uses his meteor/fire blast attack. When Malthael jumps to the middle of the map, you will want to be directly behind him (not too close though), this way you will avoid his meteor/fire blast attack. It may take a couple tries but once you get his style down, the subsequent playthroughs will not be as difficult. Once you defeated him, you will unlock.
